Salvete Freshers’ Day 2025 was celebrated on July 11, 2025 with great enthusiasm and joy, marking a significant milestone for the newly admitted students. The event, graced by Mr. Sashi Wapang Lanu, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Dimapur, as special guest was a perfect blend of warmth, excitement, and reflection, as the first semester students were officially welcomed into the institution.

Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal, gave the welcome note and celebrated the achievements of the college and students. She highlighted the institution’s success in both academics and extracurriculars, proudly noting that the college produced four gold medalists and nine university rank holders this year in the Nagaland University Undergraduate exams. She also acknowledged the strong presence and the excellent work done by alumni.

“We are so incredibly proud of the Tetso community and our students,” she said, congratulating both faculty and staff for their consistent efforts in guiding learners toward success.

Addressing the new batch, Dr. Khing encouraged the freshers to explore opportunities, be broad-minded, and immerse themselves in diverse cultures and ideas. With alumni excelling across the globe, she reminded students that the college’s mission is to empower them for lifelong success, rooted in discipline, values, and a drive to aim high.

Jiya Tosniwal, a first-semester student from the Department of English, spoke eloquently on behalf of the freshers, articulating the blend of fear, excitement, and curiosity that defined their entry into this new academic chapter.

She described the institution as “not just a place of higher education, but a space for self-discovery,” a sentiment that resonated deeply with the audience. Her words underscored that college life extends beyond academics—it’s a journey of personal growth, confidence-building, and finding purpose. With heartfelt gratitude, Jiya thanked the faculty and administration, saying, “We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn from your wisdom.” Her appreciation reflected the deep respect the freshers already held for their mentors.

She further added, “We aspire to follow in your footsteps—not just in knowledge, but in growing our confidence.” She urged her peers to learn, grow, contribute, and pursue excellence together as a united community.

Special Guest Mr. Sashi Wapang Lanu, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Dimapur, delivered a compelling address that challenged students to rethink their approach to the future. With a tone that was both realistic and encouraging, he urged young people to look beyond traditional government job exams and embrace broader possibilities.

In his speech, Mr. Lanu highlighted the tough competition in the job market, revealing that only about 700 government jobs are available annually, while over 70,000 educated youths remain unemployed. Out of Nagaland’s 20 lakh population, only 1.5 lakh are employed in government service — figures that paint a stark picture of the limited opportunities in the public sector.

Rather than letting these numbers discourage the students, Mr. Lanu used them as a call to action. He emphasized the importance of thinking outside the box, exploring alternative career paths, and building a mindset grounded in innovation and self-reliance. Academic qualifications, he said, must be paired with discipline, hard work, and the courage to take risks.

Concluding his speech, Mr. Lanu reminded students that while success is never guaranteed, consistent effort and adaptability can open doors far beyond the narrow scope of exams. His message served as both a wake up call and a source of inspiration for students stepping into a new chapter of their lives.
