STATE-LEVEL NTA UGC-NET WORKSHOP

INTRODUCTION

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with the task of conducting UGC-NET, which is a Test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor’ in Indian Universities and Colleges. NET is now required in order to enroll in or pursue a PhD. It is conducted twice every year (June & December) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode w.e.f. December 2018 onwards and is in the form of MCQs. Currently, the NTA UGC NET has two papers: Paper I and Paper II.

Paper I assesses the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It is primarily designed to test the reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

Paper II has subject-specific questions pertaining to the selection made by the examinee based on their Masters’ degree.

Awarding of JRF and/ or Eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the aggregate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. The candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professorship are not eligible to be considered for the award of JRF.

STRUCTURE OF THE WORKSHOP

This workshop will provide training and help the students prepare for both Paper I and Paper II. While Paper I is common for all streams, Paper II provides sessions only for candidates in Political Science, English, Sociology, and History. Each 60-minute session includes a preparatory technical session by the instructor, followed by mock tests as per the NTA UGC NET pattern, and an analysis of results and discussions. Candidates will be provided with soft-copy materials for each session and will receive a certificate upon completion of the workshop.

ELIGIBILITY

• NTA UGC NET examination aspirants
• Students pursuing their Masters in Political Science, English, History, and Sociology.
• Individuals who have completed their masters in Political Science, English, History, and Sociology.
