event details

On account of World Environment Day, the Tetso NSS Unit, along with the Maintenance Team, visited the Chümoukedima Town Council Recycling Unit to gain first-hand knowledge of plastic recycling and solid waste management practices.

During the visit, the team interacted with the incharge Sir Yanger Ozukum from Chümoukedima Town Council, who provided detailed insights into the processes of waste segregation, collection, and recycling. It was emphasized that every household should maintain a compost pit for biodegradable waste, which can naturally decompose and be converted into nutrient-rich manure, thereby reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills.

The team also met with Sir Lhousito Khro (Chairman, Chümoukedima Town Council) and Ma'am Moala Ao (Deputy Chairperson, Chümoukedima Town Council), who encouraged NSS volunteers to take the lead in promoting awareness on proper waste management and sustainable environmental practices within their communities.

The visit served as a valuable learning experience, enhancing participants’ understanding of responsible waste disposal, recycling, and environmental stewardship. Overall, the visit was highly informative, productive, and inspiring, reinforcing the need for sustainable waste management practices because limited area and increasing waste generation continue to pose significant environmental challenges.
