The Department of Economics, Tetso College, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) New Delhi successfully organized a two-day National Seminar on the theme “GST 2.0: A Step Toward Viksit Bharat” on 18th and 19th June 2026 at the college campus.

The seminar brought together academicians, researchers, tax professionals, policymakers, and students to deliberate on the evolving role of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India's development trajectory and its contribution towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The programme featured two distinguished keynote speakers. Dr. Dukhabandhu Sahoo, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, IIT Bhubaneswar, delivered an insightful address on the transformative potential of GST reforms in strengthening India's economic growth and fiscal governance. Prof. Giribabu Mahasamudram, Department of Economics, Mizoram University, highlighted that to address the issues in Indian agriculture requires comprehensive reforms to boost farmers’ production and productivity, with GST reforms emerging as a key catalyst for agricultural transformation.

A total of 17 research papers were presented by scholars, researchers and students from various institutions across the country. The presentations covered diverse themes including GST and economic growth, agricultural development, fiscal federalism, digital governance, tax compliance, investment promotion, MSMEs, and the role of GST in achieving the objectives of Viksit Bharat.

One of the major highlights of the seminar was a panel discussion on the theme “Transforming Tax Governance Through GST 2.0.” The panel comprised Mr. Zulutemsu Longkumer, Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes; Mr. S. Krishnan, Assistant Commissioner, CGST, Dimapur; CA Rishab Jain, Chartered Accountant, Dimapur; and CA Ritesh Kumar Jain, Chartered Accountant, Dimapur.

The panelists engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on three themes; GST 2.0: Beyond Taxation- Building Simpler and Smarter Governance, GST 2.0 and Business: Opportunities and Challenges for MSMEs and Entrepreneurs, GST 2.0 and India’s Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047. The discussion also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperative federalism, simplifying compliance procedures, and leveraging technology to improve tax administration and public service delivery.

The seminar provided an important platform for meaningful academic exchange and policy dialogue on contemporary tax reforms. Participants appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Economics, Tetso College, and ICSSR in fostering discussions on issues of national importance and contributing to the broader discourse on India's developmental aspirations.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the keynote speakers, panelists, paper presenters, delegates, faculty members, students, and organizers for their valuable contributions towards the success of the seminar.
